What can beginners expect?
Wednesbury has some of the earliest pre-war council estates; therefore, there’s a lot of residential streets for practising the basic skills.
The King’s Hill estate off Park Lane is a quiet area for beginners to practice moving and stopping. Because there are two schools in this area, we will find several speed bumps, which is ideal for practising gear changing up and down. Old Park Road is excellent for practising hill and downhill starts.
The Woods Estate off Friar Park by High Point Academy has plenty of quiet roads for practising everything a beginner should learn in the early stages of driving including how to deal with a mini-roundabout.
What can advanced learners expect?
The Black Country New Road runs through Wednesbury and is a major dual carriageway with many large roundabouts containing a three-lane approach with signs and road markings encouraging learners to plan well ahead and judge speeds plus distances from vehicles in front where you can apply the two-second rule.
Do you offer motorway lessons?
Yes, we offer motorway driving lessons. The nearest motorway from Wednesbury is the M6, which is accessed at junction 9. It is a three-minute drive from the Wednesbury driving test centre. We can access the motorway roundabout from Wood Green Road, which is controlled by traffic lights.
At junction 9, we can head northbound 1st exit to the left, Wolverhampton, Stafford and beyond, or southbound 3rd exit to your right, Great Barr, Spaghetti Junction, and beyond. Just before the interchange on the left is a retail park, which is sometimes overloaded with traffic on approach to the motorway roundabout.
The M6 has variable speeds so it’s important to read the signs and plan well ahead. Keep your distance from the driver in front. At 70 mph, your distance should be at least 96 metres (315 feet or 24 car lengths). Always remember the MSM routine before you take any action such as merging, changing lanes or leaving the roundabout.
