What can beginners expect?
Horseley Road by Q3 Academy is long and not too busy for beginners. It’s a great spot to deliver the controls lesson, which covers the accelerator, brake, clutch, handbrake, gears, steering, how to adjust your seat, and how to set your mirrors correctly. Our instructors will also explain the indicators, light warning signs, and controls on the dashboard plus more. All of this is important before the road beckons.
There are plenty of side streets off Upper Church Lane onto Arthur Road just before Summerhill Primary Academy school. This residential area is astounding because it has plenty of long flat roads for practising the emergency stop and countless side roads for left and right turns. You will learn the difference between main and side roads, changing gears up and down plus learning how to stop close to a kerb.
If you don’t live close to the area as described above, there is another quiet residential area in and around Wake Green Road, which is opposite the Asda supermarket in Tipton. Beginner learners can practice exactly the same as above plus uphill and downhill starts, including steering control on a bend opposite Wednesbury Oak Primary School.
What can advanced learners expect?
Turning left onto Ocker Hill Road from Gospel Oak Road is challenging for many advanced learners. There is a very sharp unexpected bend, which usually catches drivers off guard and requires negotiating at a much lower speed and gear.
There is an area off Coneygree Road by Tipton Library across the mini roundabout onto Park Lane East where only one car can pass through. This is where you will learn how to meet opposing traffic safely with vehicles parked on both sides of the road and where no vehicle has priority. You will learn how to assess what sort of action the oncoming driver is likely to take and act accordingly.
The Asda car park offers a good opportunity to practice bay parking. The Black Country Route runs close to Tipton and is where you will practice approaching and negotiating busy roundabouts.
Do you offer motorway lessons?
Yes, we offer motorway driving lessons. The M5 is the nearest motorway to Tipton and it can be accessed from two junctions. The junction 1 interchange at West Bromwich is connected via the Black Country New Road or we can head to junction 2 at Oldbury via the New Birmingham Road.
Junction 2 is situated next to Birchley Island, which contains filters lanes that take you directly onto the motorway. In this instance, you do not have to give right as you would normally at conventional roundabouts.
You have a choice of which direction to drive in upon reaching the M5. Heading southbound will give you the opportunity to drive towards Royal Leamington Spa via the M42 and M40. Northbound will take you past Wolverhampton where you can join the M54 or you can use the M6 toll, which offers a smoother driving experience.
