How much are your driving lessons?

Please visit our price page.

What cars do you provide?

We offer:

  • Female driving instructor with 34 years experience in a Toyota Yaris petrol car with manual transmission.
  • Male driving instructor with 36 years experience in a VW Up petrol car with manual transmission.
Do you offer automatic tuition?

No, we only provide manual driving lessons.

What can beginners expect?

An ideal area for beginner drivers in Kingstanding is Collingwood Drive just off the roundabout by Queslett Road. Here you will learn about car controls, the checks you need to make before starting the journey, left and right turns, clutch control, and hill starts.

There is a great bend to practice steering control in Farrier Road just off Collingwood Drive. You may struggle at first, but as the lessons progress, you will find that everything falls into place. We will encourage you all the way, keep you safe, and will take you to the next level once the instructor recognises that you are more confident.

Shady Lane, close to the Kingstanding circle roundabout is another quiet residential area around Dunedin Road. It is long, flat, and perfect for practising an emergency stop.

On Hawthorn & Dulwich Road off the traffic light crossroads by Kingstanding Road, there are plenty of side roads to practice everything detailed above including mini roundabouts.

A stone’s throw away from the Kingstanding test centre along Dyas Road is a brilliant area for beginners. Meadthorpe Road is close by where you will get a grasp of steering control. We will follow the road around a continuous bend of 360 degrees passing Glenmead Primary School and around again.

If you live in a busy heavily congested area, we will always choose a quiet suitable location nearby.

What can advanced learners expect?

There is a large car park off Kettlehouse Road where we can practice bay parking up a hill, down a hill, on a flat surface, going forward and reversing into a bay. This is a requirement at all driving test centres that have a car park including the Kingstanding test centre on Birdbrook Road.

Off the Kingstanding Circle roundabout and onto Kingstanding Road requires extra care when turning right off the dual carriageway and onto Harringray Road. A lot of drivers have been seen to turn into the opposing traffic at this point. Reading the road markings and forward planning is of great importance.

Understanding exits at roundabouts is where even the experienced driver makes mistakes, which of course, could fail you the driving test. A roundabout off Queslett Road with a four-lane approach towards Scott Arms is a classic example. People often make a mistake here when taking the second left into Kings Road.

The Kingstanding Circle with five exits offers opportunities to master more complex roundabouts. There are many dual carriageways with variable speeds and many of them with parked cars in the left lane therefore you will practice the skill of constantly changing lanes whilst applying the MSM PSL routine.

Do you offer motorway lessons?

Yes, we offer motorway driving lessons. The nearest motorway to Kingstanding is the M6, which is accessed via junction 7 using the Queslett Road. We can then head southbound to the Gravelly Hill Interchange, which is known as Spaghetti Junction.

This is a complicated network of roads that contains roundabouts, traffic lights and multiple junctions running in several directions. It can be quite intimidating; however, the interchange is a superb spot to master your motorway driving skills.

We also have the option to drive down the A38, which is commonly known as the Aston Expressway. This short motorway is unusual in that it does not have a central reservation and operates a tidal flow system. Open lanes in both directions are controlled by overhead signs, which can change depending on the amount of traffic and time of day.

Where can I take my practical driving test?

Kingstanding driving test centre is located on Birdbrook Road.

Where can I take my theory test?

Sutton Coldfield theory test centre is the nearest to Kingstanding located 4.5 miles away or you can use the Birmingham theory test centre, which is 5.5 miles away.

Alison – Kingstanding

“I started driving lessons with Rita after listening to recommendations from others who had passed their driving test with Anglia. I found every driving lesson enjoyable, comfortable and encouraging. Rita is a very patient and supportive instructor, who makes you feel at ease and boosts your confidence. I passed my theory test first time and within a few months then felt ready to take my practical driving test. I also passed that first time! I would recommend that anyone who is looking for a reliable and positive driving school needs to look no further – go with Anglia because you will probably not find another one that is better.”
